This is worse than San Francisco banning fast food restaurants because they argued it was making poor people unhealthy and fat.
Mark my words, if LA enforces condom use for pornographic art (ya, I'm calling it art), then one of two things, or a combination of both, will occur.
- The law is ignored absolutely and entirely. Just as prohibition of alcohol was ignored in the 20's and early 30's, this law will be ignored. Just as marijuana laws are ignored today, this law will be ignored. This will create a disregard for the law in the porn industry, and likely increase the possibility that other more reasonable laws will not be heeded. Furthermore, I imagine that this will be difficult to enforce.
- Pornographic companies will move out of Los Angeles to another city. Business will be driven away.
The truth is that there is not a market for pornographic film where a condom is used. People do not want to see it. A company making pornographic pictures (haha, calling it a picture makes it sound like it deserves an Oscar) should be careful if not having actor use a condom, the actors should be tested regularly, or non visible or other means should be taken for safety. But a blanket governmental rule requiring condoms would be like banning real guns from being used in action movies, or banning Matthew McConaughey from chick flicks, it just isn't feasible.
This is right up there with SOPA and the NDAA. (not really, that is a bad joke).
Hahaha well LA can now say goodbye to its porn industry!
ReplyDeleteWhat's worse? People voluntarily having sex without condoms (as if there weren't other forms of contraception) or completely destroying tens, hundreds, or even thousands of jobs?
